Call an Ambulance I watched too many horror movies
And had many thoughts about Bridgerton Season Two
Hi again movie watchers, what was the last movie you saw in theaters?
When it comes to action movies, occasionally I need a little convincing. Lucky for Michael Bay, it’s not a difficult task to convince me to watch any movie, as I’ll undoubtedly watch anything once. To my pleasant surprise, Ambulance was a roller coaster ride you get off and want to get in line to ride again.
Quite the impressive performance from Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who masterfully made sure every emotion that crossed the big screen was truly felt. Much like he did in Candyman, Abdul sinks into every role like a comfy couch— he’s warm and striking. Accented by Eiza González, while she delivered a bright and punchy scene-stealing performance packed with glorious adrenaline.
I can’t stop thinking about how thrilling this adventure became as each minute of the film unfolded. Although centered completely around one car chase, Bay ensures that you’re never bored. Not to mention, Bay’s passionate discovery of the power of drones in filming was an extremely extra yet ridiculously awesome feat to watch.
To top it all off, Ambulance had such timely notes of humor sprinkled throughout. The kind of relief that keeps you smiling long after the scene has finished.
So yeah, you should definitely see it, that’s what this newsletter is all about right? Prepare for the most thrilling anxiety-ridden two hours of your life.
Nothing reminds you more of the importance of ambulances and EMT’s than a bone-chilling horror movie.
Through the month of April, I’ve nearly watched a horror movie everyday with my girlfriend Megan. I know what you’re thinking (What the fuck?) and if not that, I’m probably close. I’m also kinda thinking that, because yes, I did have a nightmare or two. But let me tell you why it’s always so worth it.
Nothing lights a fire in my little film heart like a good horror movie. Horror is my favorite genre aside from Romantic Comedies (I know… I know). So if you’re easily spooked, maybe skip down to my Bridgerton discourse you big baby. Just kidding. Sorta.
I recently rewatched The Conjuring Trilogy, with scares that still hold up just as well as they always have. Arguably one of the most terrifying experiences I’ve had watching horror. I’ll never forget seeing The Conjuring for the first time in theaters and having to sleep with every light I could get my hands on, turned on, bright, to illuminate the dark I assumed was filled with fictional demons. Some might call that scarred for life, but I think it just might be the James Wan effect.
A horror movie that scares you just the same every time is always worth a rewatch.
Funny Games with Naomi Watts and Tim Roth also made it off my watch list and onto my laptop screen, because of this thread. I have absolutely no idea how I haven’t come across this film before, but let me tell you it is absolutely deranged. It classifies itself as a psychological thriller, but honestly I was scared for my life. I’m taking the liberty of declaring it a horror film.
I’ve never seen two antagonists so insufferably evil, and two protagonists more exceptionally average. This is a film starring two monstrous main characters insistent on the suffering and anguish of the protagonists. So convincing that by the end you end up just like them. Sticking with the characters not in hope of their survival, but in anticipation of their inevitable demise.
Last but not least, I have to tell you about The Cleansing Hour, a movie about an iCarly like broadcast that goes lives every so often, but instead of a pleasant livestream, they are live streaming fake exorcisms (yeah.. huh?!). I must recommend you join these characters who end up with more than they bargained for when their very own friend ends up actually possessed. It’s as ridiculous as you think, yet surprisingly packed with satisfying payoff and story-telling.
BONUS
Has anyone been watching Bridgerton? I know It’s not a movie… let me explain. Anthony and Kate in season 2 are the closest characters to Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice I’ve ever seen. An enemies to lovers slow burn that makes your cheeks turn pink.
Until next time.
