Brittany Snow's "Bobby-Lynne" in X will make your head explode
i know what you're watching this weekend
My ★★★★★ review of X on Letterboxd.
So I bet you know Brittany Snow from Prom Night, one of her first stabs (sorry) at a slasher. Maybe Pitch Perfect, I mean I think we were all there for the beloved riff off.
You might even know her from Someone Great or John Tucker Must Die (my personal favorite) since she is a generous talent that is ever-changing and evolving into an absolute powerhouse. It’s safe to say if it’s a Brittany Snow project, I’ll be front row.
Brittany Snow’s Bobby-Lynne in X is absolutely show-stopping. She completely transforms into a southern belle with Dolly Parton-like charm. She makes for a glamorous introduction with subtle yet striking whims of the American dream and her God-given beauty. And what’s more American than a bottle blonde with blue eyes?
What immediately makes her stand out is her delivery. She brings every word on the page to life with tempting ease. You feel lucky to be in Bobby-Lynne’s presence. She’s self-assured and what she wants is a life for herself without borders or boundaries. An entrepreneurial spirit.
Buckle up. Viewer Discretion Sorta Advised.
And that is exactly what she sets out to do when she regrettably stars in what would soon become a beautiful massacre of an adult film. Because everyone knows the most important rule of horror movies: sex gets you killed.
“Everybody likes sex, “ Bobby-Lynne declares. Snow maintains and masterfully executes a strong and sexually empowered performance. Despite the pressure to feel deviant in an infamous industry, Bobby-Lynne is sure that, both publically and privately, her sexuality is a superpower.
“Queer, straight, Black, white, it’s all disco.”
Snow brings confidence and control to Bobby-Lynne that leaves you delightfully envious. If the allure in her drawl wasn’t enough to convince you, she decides to romance us with her very own rendition of “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac. Both dazzling and campy, because how did Fleetwood Mac make it into a porn movie? That’s just fun as hell.
If there was ever a time to want to literally become a fictional character, that time is certainly now. This is my written love letter to the delicious horror extravaganza that is X, and to Brittany Snow’s detailed reinvention of what it means to be a Slasher Film Girl.
Until next time.
